Professor Joyce C. Polistena presented a paper, “In Good Faith: Straining for Order Out of Chaos in Works by Deshwan Dumas,” at the symposium Faith, Identity, and History: Representations of Christianity in Modern and Contemporary African American Art. The symposium was organized to coincide with the exhibition Henry Ossawa Tanner: Modern Spirit at PAFA. Dr. Leslie King-Hammond was the keynote speaker. The event was cosponsored by The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, St. Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, and ASCHA and was held at The Philadelphia Museum of Art and PAFA. Dumas is a fine arts/art history major at Pratt Institute.
