Dr. Alice T. Friedman will be giving a lecture, “Poker Faces: Looking at Modern Houses through a Queer Feminist Lens” on Thursday, April 25 at 6PM in the alumni reading room.

About Dr. Alice T. Friedman:
Alice T. Friedman is the Grace Slack McNeil Professor Emerita of American Art; Professor Emerita of Art.  She is the former director of the McNeil Program for Studies in American Art at Wellesley College. She also served as co-director of the Architecture Program. Friedman is the author of numerous books and articles on domestic architecture, women’s history and patronage, including House and Household in Elizabethan England: Wollaton Hall and the Willoughby Family; Women and the Making of the Modern House: A Social and Architectural History; and, most recently, American Glamour and the Evolution of Modern Architecture.

Schedule for April 25-26, including Senior Exhibition and Guest Lecture:
On Thursday, April 25th in the Alumni Reading Room, HAD will be having the launch of the HAD graduating students’ celebration. It begins with the opening of the HAD Senior Exhibition opening, “Silent Conversations: Rediscovering Pratt through the Archives” at 4:30pm followed by the special lecture: “Poker Faces: Looking at Modern Houses through a Queer Feminist Lens,” delivered by Dr. Alice T. Friedman, Professor Emerita, Wellesley College at 6pm. On Friday, April 26th, Dr. Friedman will rejoin us at noon, serving as the respondent for the HAD MA students’ thesis presentations. We encourage everyone to participate in this two-day celebration of our students’ accomplishments.
