Professor Heather Horton participated in the AICAD Symposium: INCLUDE ME! Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Otis College of Art and Design. Together with Heather Lewis (Art and Design Education) and Migiwa Spiller (Foundations), Horton presented on November 8th on “Teaching and Learning in the First Year: Inclusive Curriculum and Pedagogy across Disciplines and Programs.” The presentation focused on experiments and results from Pratt’s three-year Faculty Learning community on Learning in the First Year. Horton’s presentation briefly described the student Learning Communities, which bridge the residential, social, and academic lives of students in HAD111/112 Themes in Art and Culture. But it primarily focused on Horton’s efforts to integrate studio practices into art history assignments and to diversify her approach to teaching historical material by incorporating contemporary artists and their historically-engaged works into HAD111/112 Themes in Art and Culture.
